Making the house our HOME ...

When we moved into the new home it was right in the heart of Forensics season - so the hubs and I were gone almost every Saturday.  We would leave the house at a little before 5 AM and not be back until after 9 PM so the last thing we had the energy for was home improvements.

BUT - finally, we have some time and so we are finally making this house our home! :)

Starting with little things like finding baskets to put on top of the washing mashing and dryer to hold towels and the laundry items ...

I have been searching IKEA online making my list {and checking it twice} of pieces we needed for the house.  Thankfully we didn't need too much but I still knew a trip soon was needed.  So, thankfully my mom and dad came down this past weekend to help us out!  A to-do list was left for the hubs and my dad and my mom and I hit the road to shop!

We both LOVE walking through IKEA and getting ideas for the home.  I was a good girl though and stuck to buying ONLY what was on my list that I had made at home.  It took some self control, but that just means we might have to make another trip this summer! :)

While we were gone the men were busy at work - they put up some new light fixtures outside, put a dimmer switch inside, and painted our bedroom.  I absolutely LOVE the new color - it's so bright and cheery!!

{with our new night stands and lamps from IKEA}

When we returned from IKEA I joked with my mom, asking her what she was going to build.  I let her know if we all picked one thing to build it would be done in no time!  However, my dad and her split pretty shortly after we got home - I think they knew my plan, haha! :)

So the hubs and I spent the evening building away - two night stands, a chair and ottoman, and a show holder for the front entry way.

 And one final piece that is up and we are loving, our shoe storage!  It's so sleek and fits perfectly in our entry way ... and the welcome committee is pretty cute too!
